2006 Innovation Grant Recipients for "Grassroots Ultimate in the Schools"

This application was to raise money to teach teachers to teach ultimate in the schools. With the lack of Ultimate awareness across the country, starting in the schools is a huge step to making the love of our sport known to everyone. This grant will lead to clinics that teach the people who have the largest influence on today's children in the place where they spend the majority of their time.

AUC Board

Here is a message from the AUC Board President - Jason Rector:

Hey Asheville Ultimate players-

Recently Asheville Ultimate Club was named volunteer
of the year for the Athletics department of Asheville
Parks and Recreation. This is a huge award for us
given the fact there was a time that Asheville
Ultimate and Asheville Parks and Recreation were not
on the best of terms.

Many of you are not aware of the number of people
involved with the Asheville Ultimate Board of
Directors and the amount of work that they do to make
ultimate possible in Asheville. I wanted to take a
second and acknowledge them especially in light of
this award.

If you see these people, tell them thanks and ask how
you can help. If you want to join the board, make
that known, we can always use people willing to
volunteer their time. Without the efforts of the
board, there would be no adult leagues, no Hodown, no
middle school league, no high school league, no
elementary school leagues, no organized pick-up, no
kick ass social network, and no place for Chris
Thompson to throw swill.

I think it is important for players to also know that
we are working with Parks and Rec to develope a
comprehensive plan to develope a facility designated
for ultimate within Asheville. We are also working to
establish a second annual tournament in Asheville to
highlight not only the area and the facilities, but
also the level of play.

Anyway, Ultimate is great but it doesn't just happen
and the board does a great job for all of us and this
award shows that the community recognizes it as well.
So say thanks to:

Evan, Heather, Andy K, Joe D, Hugh, Becka, Slater,
Strasser, Tom House, Craig S, Dr Hammer, Jessie P and
Ally (if you ever see them again), Dan Kenny, Jason Rector and a
special thanks to Keith for work on leagues.
